Turkey Meatloaf With Apples And Sage
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 tbsp butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 shallots, finely chopped
- 2 Gala apples, peeled and cut into small chunks
- 2/3 cup dry or fresh breadcrumbs
- 2/3 cup milk
- 2 lb ground turkey
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1/4 cup apple butter, plus 1 tbsp for tops of loaves
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh sage
- 1 tsp fine sea salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 400 F.
- Grease eight mini loaf pans or a small baking pan.
- In a medium skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the garlic and shallots and cook, stirring occasionally, until the shallots are softened, about 3 minutes.
- In a large bowl, stir together the apple chunks, breadcrumbs and milk; allow to soak for about 5 minutes.
- Add turkey and mix to combine.
- Stir in the egg as well as the garlic and shallot mixture, being sure to scrape all the butter from the pan into the bowl.
- Add the apple butter, sage, salt and pepper and mix evenly.
- Spoon the meat mixture into the loaf pans.
- If not using mini loaf pans, place meat on the baking sheet and shape it into an oval.
- Bake for about 50 minutes, or until the internal temperature of a loaf reaches 160 F.
- In the last few minutes of the cooking, brush the tops with apple butter.
- Allow the loaves to rest for 5 minutes before serving.
