Hot N Spicy Fish Soup
Ingredients
- 2 6-ounce fresh or frozen halibut steaks, cut 1 inch thick
- 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 to 3 teaspoons grated ginger
- 1 serrano pepper, seeded and finely chopped
- 1/2 cup chopped tomato
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Cilantro leaves (optional)
Directions
- Thaw fish, if frozen.
- Rinse fish and pat dry.
- Remove skin and bones.
- Cut into 1-inch pieces.
- In a saucepan heat oil over medium heat.
- Add cumin seeds and cook and stir 1 minute.
- Add onion and cook and stir for 4 to 5 minutes.
- Add ginger and chile pepper and cook and stir for 1 minute.
- Add tomato and cook and stir for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Stir in the water, coriander, turmeric, and salt.
- Bring to boiling.
- Reduce heat.
- Stir in fish.
- Cook, covered, 5 minutes or just until fish pieces flake easily when tested with a fork.
- Serve immediately.
- Garnish with cilantro.
