Cincinnati Chili
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef chuck
- 1 pound ground lamb or beef
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 ounce unsweetened chocolate, chopped
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
- 1/3 cup seeded and chopped roma tomato
- 1/4 cup chopped green onion
- Hot cooked spaghetti
- Grated cheddar cheese
Directions
- In a Dutch oven cook ground beef, ground lamb, onion, and garlic over medium-high heat until meat is brown.
- Drain fat.
- Stir in chili powder, salt, cumin, allspice, cinnamon, cloves, and cayenne pepper.
- Cook and stir for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, broth, chocolate, honey, and vinegar.
- Simmer, uncovered, for 20 to 30 minutes.
- In a bowl combine roma tomato and green onion.
- Serve chili over spaghetti and top each serving with roma tomato mixture and cheese.
